I attended a ceramics course for beginners in 2016 and feel compelled to write a review of my experiences, so that others can be aware. The facilities at RACC are fantastic and extensive- however this is let down by poor teaching/ instruction and organisation in my experience. The teacher [name removed by administrator] was no-doubt a highly competent potter, however her manner when dealing with students was often vague, and sometimes very patronising. She left many of us taking the course feeling very frustrated as our questions very often went unanswered or brushed aside- meaning it took a long time to get any clear instruction and for a great deal of the time we were left to find our own way (not easy and quite demoralising when you are dealing with clay for the first time.) It was a real shame, because what could have been a relaxing and informative class was often rather frustrating and stressful. For this reason I would definitely not recommend this course- unless you are prepared to do a more focused course independently beforehand, and simply use this course as an opportunity to use the facilities at the RACC with some occasional instruction. Or if you are confident enough with clay already to work with a teacher who will offer only sporadic instruction.
